Summary:
(1924-1987) Author James Baldwin, the quintessential voice of the African-American community in the 20th century, was born in Harlem, New York, in an exciting era when a rich, black artistic revival was electrifying the ghetto despite the hard times. Escaping his difficult youth through reading, Baldwin eventually read every book in the Harlem library. As an adult, he moved to Greenwich Village where writers and artists were expressing themselves freely. Through his novels, he showed white America the seething anger racism had created. By the late 1950s, Baldwin had become very involved in the Civil Rights Movement, meeting with Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X. Part of the Black Americans of Achievement Video Collection that celebrates the most influential African Americans in history.

Only available in the US.
