Summary:
It is 1963 and black Americans are struggling against racial injustice and widespread violence. Their outcry has lead President John F. Kennedy to propose a sweeping new Civil Rights bill. But Kennedy's promise to end segregation is crushed in one terrible moment when the President is assassinated while visiting Dallas. The nation is stunned, and the fate of Kennedy's Civil Rights bill is now in the hands of America's new President, Lyndon Johnson, a former Senator from Texas. While he served in Congress, Johnson was known as the consummate dealmaker and power broker. Despite his mastery over the Senate, he was still reluctant to propose Civil Rights legislation. From the beginning of his presidency, he was told that pushing civil rights was politically dangerous; nevertheless he made it the cornerstone of his domestic program.
