Summary:
Study the various processes that cause desertification, the destruction of arable land. The program recounts various causes of what is called dryland degradation: soil erosion, poor land management, and lack of water. Perhaps most importantly, students will see that this often occurs in the world's poorest countries due to a shortage of funds and overextended demands for tourism and resources. By traveling to Spain to see the effects of desertification firsthand, viewers will witness how it affects its inhabitants and how such steps as adept water and land management can stop this process from destroying third-world countries.
