Summary:
Help your students learn to appreciate and understand the art of theater as both literature and performance with this wonderful, interactive CD-ROM. They will learn about the techniques and forms of drama and analyze The Miracle Worker in terms of its exposition, complication, climax, and resolution. Through the work of a few influential, 19th-century playwrights including Ibsen, Strindberg, and Chekhov, students will trace the origins of contemporary drama and will examine how 19th-century social forces helped shape early 20th-century drama. Playwrights whose styles and themes are analyzed through discussion and excerpts include Shaw, O'Casey, Williams, Miller, Pirandello, Beckett, and many more. With these examples, the program shows how drama in the 20th century has moved from realism/naturalism to symbolism and, more recently, to expressionism.
