Each part briefly explains the scientific principles of sound, then takes viewers on a historical tour of the musical changes and achievements of the baroque, classical, romantic, and modern eras. Part one focuses on rhythm and melody and part two concentrates on dynamics and tone. Along the way, students will hear the music of Bach, Beethoven, Handel, Vivaldi, Haydn, and Copland as an inspiring host uses a variety of musical instruments to demonstrate essential musical concepts. A helpful menu allows users to watch the disc glossary of key terms and teacher's guides for each of the two sections enhance the ideas found in the program and aid in content integration. The program may be viewed using either a DVD player or a computer equipped with a DVD-ROM drive.
