Summary:
U.S. black aviators' history has remained barely known to the general public--until now. Eugene Ballard won the Croix de Guerre fighting for France in WWI, and Bessie Coleman went there for a pilot's license in the 1920s. WWII's Tuskegee Airmen proved doubters wrong with unmatched success rates on their missions. Frank Peterson overcame segregation to become the Marine's first black 3-Star General. These and other stories tell the personal battles black aviators fought to take to the sky and fly free.
