The rags-to-riches story of Aaron Spelling, the Hollywood producer who created some of the most-beloved TV shows of all time. Spelling grew up literally on the wrong side of the tracks in Dallas, Texas, where he was bullied for being Jewish. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, then sought his fortune in Hollywood in the early 1950s. After the actor and producer, Dick Powell, took Spelling under his wing, he never stopped working. Spelling went on to produce dozens of hit series, including "Mod Squad" Starsky and Hutch," Love Boat," "Fantasy Island" and "Charlie's Angels." People began referring to ABC as Aaron's Broadcasting Company. When "Dynasty" was canceled in 1989, Spelling's reign appeared over. But he broke back with "Beverly Hills 90210," featuring his daughter, Tori. By the mid-1990s, Spelling had amassed a fortune estimated at over $300 million. His $45-million-dollar home, dubbed the Manor, included an entire room devoted to gift-wrapping and to his wife's doll museum. Spelling's health deteriorated after undergoing radiation treatments for throat cancer in 2001, but he still kept his hand in the business he loved. He suffered a stroke in the summer 2006, and died on June 23.
