Grade Level:
K - 2
Show students how difficult it is to emigrate to the United States. Victor, a young Mexican boy, helps students begin to identify with and learn from difficult situations. Even though Victor has lived in the United States for two years, his English is not perfect, and he sometimes misses important information the teacher gives to the class. Other students in Victor's class treat him like an outcast because they do not understand his attitudes and customs. When Victor is asked to give a presentation on Los Posadas, the Mexican Christmas holiday, he is disappointed that his mother will not attend because she is embarrassed that she can only speak Spanish. This program helps students develop empathy and understanding for people of other cultures and languages.
